How this figure is made

On the home page every visitor answers one question: are you wearing shorts today, yes or no. One vote per visitor per day. The index is simply the share of yes votes on that day — no weighting, no model, and not a sample that represents the country.

That is why the number of votes is always shown alongside it. A province with fewer than 8 votes gets no percentage but the note ‘too few votes’: with three voters, 67% is noise rather than a fact.

The counter starts again every night at midnight, Dutch time. Votes from outside the Netherlands count towards the national figure but never appear on the map.
